The following stages represent the typical flow in our Design Process. Project Specification Once ODM Innovations has assisted a new client to establish IP Protection for their idea, our free consultation service provides them with the opportunity to present their product idea to our experienced designers and engineers for appraisal and other advice regarding product design, manufacturing technology and the commercialisation process. This meeting enables ODM Innovations to clarify and confirm product design objectives and the client to undertake any additional research. ODM Innovations then supplies the client with a Design Project Quotation document which summarises design objectives for the project and estimates the costs for ODM Innovations to meet specified design objectives. Innovation Management & Research Using the Design Project Quotation produced from the Free Consultation, the client can elect for ODM Innovations to undertake research into product markets, materials and manufacturing technology, safety standards and existing basic patent searches. Through group research and concept brainstorming ODM Innovations aims to provide the client with any new information which influences the design objectives, multiple product design possibilities and a proposed strategy for further resolving concept designs in the next design stages. Concept Development Concept development aims to take the ideas generated in the research stage and develop them into feasible design solutions that meet specific aesthetic and/or functional criteria. Freehand sketching and basic 3D CAD modelling techniques are used to rapidly visualise concept solutions, resolve specific or critical part design details, compare concept ideas against each other, carry out further specific research, and ultimately provide the client with one or more feasible product design resolutions. Concept development continues until a preferred concept has been selected for detailed design development in the next stage. Design & Documentation ODM Innovations produces detailed 3D CAD models of the parts and/or assemblies which make up the preferred concept solution from the previous stage. 3D CAD modelling allows overall aesthetic and functional characteristics as well as part specific details to be continually updated and resolved. 3D CAD modelling ensures that individual parts are designed to be manufactured efficiently, and the 3D CAD data is also used to produce accurate 2D Enginnering drawings, parts lists and other valuable information such volume, weight, and materials data. Prototyping While it is not essential for all projects, prototyping is an excellent way to produce realistic, physical representations of product design solutions for visualisation, validation and testing purposes. ODM Innovations utilises both in-house workshopping capabilities and outsourced Rapid Prototyping (RP) companies to quickly produce prototype parts that simulate real-life manufactured items. Prototyping techniques are also used for trial and small-batch production and assembly runs and are also an excellent way of generating marketing and investor interest for the product throughout the commercialisation process. Final Design Documentation Final design design documentation is the process of preparing all product design data for manufacturing and production stages. It involves gathering all the information from previous stages, finalising 3D CAD parts, assemblies and 2D engineering drawings, finalising all materials, dimensional tolerances and specifications, producing quality control documents that cover the manufacture, assembly and supply of parts, producing assembly instructions, installation instructions and other marketing or media material which is useful to the product commercialisation process. Manufacturing Design The manufacturing management stage aims to provide our clients with a product manufacturing schedule that meets clearly defined scope, quality, time and cost constraints. ODM Innovations uses an extensive local and global network of manufacturers and service providers to source existing parts and manufacture new copmponents, and we endeavour to provide accurate pricing structures for final product manufacturing, assembly, packaging and transportation costs and manage the entire production process including quality control procedures, shipping and door-to-door delivery of parts. |
